5-By's 2012 Photo Challenge
This year I'm doing a 52 week. I'll most likely post more often here to the blog, only because I've enjoyed having the camera over the last year with me at all times.

Some last photos of 2012
While I may still shoot between now and the new year, I have already set up my 2013 project. Once again, I'll be doing a 52 week. This year, however, I'll be using the Nikon Cafe Collective Shoot themes as my guide. I shoot what-ever the theme of the week is. I'll post those (and most likely lots of other shots at my next blog: 5-byphotos-2013.blogspot.com Hope to see you there!
A shot from Thursday overlooking Vegas:
Mark and I went snow-shoeing today on Antelope Island. No wildlife (a bit disappointing), but wonderful time...

More owls!
Merry Christmas. Mark and I went to Salt Creek Waterfowl Reserve and Bear River Bird Refuge today. Got to see lots of owls!
Barn Owl:
Not sure what he is...
Short eared (w/ dinner)
Another Barn Owl...just after stretching his wing he poked his head into the snow and flew away with the mouse!
It was great...we even has some pictures of what I thought was a harrier on a post, only to find out it was another owl. We probably saw a good dozen all-together.

okay, so I'm posting again
We went to Antelope Island...sure enough my owl was sitting in his normal spot and the female in hers...
We then went for a hike...this is a bit overdone, but I kinda like the effect

Bear River 21 Dec 12
So on the Winter Solstice and the day the world is predicted to end we (Mark is here!) went to Bear River Bird Refuge. We saw lots of cool birds (and some coots...)
Mark had control of the camera for the shots of the bald eagles:
We saw a short-eared owl sitting on the side of the road, this was the best we could do.
Not quite able to id this guy. He was real close to the car, but I put the camera down to admire him when he flew away. Oh-well.
Again, not sure why the herons are still here. Was a bit amusing watching them take off from ice.
We also saw lots of harriers, a pheasant, many different types of ducks and some rough legged hawks. Afterwards, Mark got re-qual'd to fly!

2 more weeks
Can you believe that we only have 2 more weeks left in 2012!
All of these were taken with 50mm lens, no cropping (yes, I was that close to the bison!). I did some pano-stitching on the last one. Interestingly enough: I brought one of my panos (the bison in the snow back in Nov) to the printer today and was told that I could get a 72x12 print with great resolution! Think about that...a six foot long print. WOW!
